43XXALBERTSONSEither NE or SW Corner of 9th Street N. and 94th Avenue N.St. PetersburgFL33702PinellasThis store was planned as one of the original Skaggs-Albertsons stores. Construction was supposed to begin on this store at one of the two undeveloped lots at this intersection in Summer of 1974, according to an old newspaper article. Construction never happened here for reasons unknown. Both possible lots have since been developed with smaller businesses.
43XXALBERTSONSSE Corner of S. Beneva Road and Bahia Vista StreetSarasotaFL34232SarasotaAlbertsons was the highest bidder for this property that once housed offices for the Sarasota County School Board. In order to obtain the property, Albertsons had 150 days to go to the zoning board and get the property changed from government use to commercial use. Local residents in the condominium complex adjacent to the site did not want an large 24 hour supermarket next to them, citing traffic concerns, so they protested to the zoning board. The board then rejected Albertsons plans, so Albertsons forfeited the bid. Albertsons later opened thier first Sarasota store in 1988 in the Landings Shopping Center, developed by the same company who later bought this proposed Albertsons site to build a small neighborhood shopping complex.
44XXALBERTSONSSW Corner of US 98 and Marcum RoadLakelandFL33810PolkThis planned store from 1994 was supposed to act as the so called "replacement" for the recently closed Albertsons on S. Florida Avenue in Lakeland (Store #4322). Plans for this store were being made when the closure of the original Lakeland store was announced. This store was planned to open in 1995, but was never built. When this store never materialized, Albertsons still was rumored to be looking for another Lakeland site, but Albertsons never built a new store in the city.
44XXALBERTSONSNW Corner of Prima Vista Blvd & Airoso BlvdPROPOSED SHOPPING CENTERPort St. LucieFL34983St. LucieAlbertsons offered to buy Sportsman's Park, PSL's oldest park, from the city in 1996 to build a new store and shopping center at the site. As a part of the deal, Alberstons would have given the city land elsewhere in town for a new park. The city took interest in this deal for a while, but fierce local opposition about the plans made PSL city council members ultimately shoot down Albertson's offer. Four years later, Albertsons built store #4466 1.5 miles down the road in St. Lucie West.

Residents in the area did not want the store and were fiercely opposed to it, saying it was against city code to build a store at that site and would impede traffic flow on local roads. Some also felt the site was too small and wouldn't allow for enough parking spaces. The city council and zoning board later rejected Albertsons plans and appeal in late 1997.
44XXALBERTSONSSW Corner of Miami Gardens Drive and NE 18th RoadSHOPS AT SKYLAKE (SKYLAKE MALL)MiamiFL33179Miami-DadeAlbertsons was supposed to be the original supermarket anchor for the redevelopment of the former Skylake Mall. For reasons unknown, Albertsons backed out of these plans and Publix opened a store at this site instead in 1999 (There was a lawsuit of some kind going on between Albertsons and the developer of the site, which probably led to Albertsons backing out on this store). The building Publix currently operates in is actually a modified Albertsons structure.
44XXALBERTSONSSE Corner of State Road 54 and Collier ParkwayWILLOW BEND TOWNE CENTRELutzFL33549PascoAs Publix planned to relocate their store in this shopping center across the street in 2002, Albertsons was approached to open a new store in the former Publix. Albertsons looked into the site but found that Publix had a lease restriction in their contract barring any competing supermarket from taking over thie site after they left. Bed Bath & Beyond was then approached to take over the former Publix after Albertsons backed out, but they also did not accept for reasons unknown. The former Publix eventually became home to a Lifestyle Family Fitness Center in 2009.
44XXALBERTSONSNW Corner of Peachland Boulevard and Veterans BoulevardPort CharlotteFL33954CharlotteAlbertsons released plans to build their first Charlotte County store and gas station here in this newly expanding part of town in October 2000. Not long after, Publix released plans to replace their store across the street from the planned Albertsons with a new, larger store in the empty lot adjacent to their existing store. Both stores, though, never materialized for reasons unknown. The Albertsons site was cleared around 2010 for outparcels to be built on, but nothing major has happened to the site since.
44XXALBERTSONSSE Corner of Sheridan Street and N. 14th AvenueSHERIDAN PLAZAHollywoodFL33019BrowardAlbertsons first submitted plans for this 45,000 square foot store in 1999. After the plans were made public, the community was outraged and began having protests at this site to stop the construction of this store. Albertsons eliminated the gas station from their plans to try to calm the community, but they kept protesting, citing traffic concerns and negative environmental impacts on the neighboring West Lake Park. The city originally approved the plans for this store, but in January 2000, Albertsons decided to cancel their plans for building this store. The site is currently owned by Broward County as preserve land.

After getting approval of the project, the plans fell through due to the discovery of contaminated soil in the ground beneath the shopping center, contamination left behind by a dry cleaners that closed many years prior. Due to the delay and construction and the costs involved, Albertsons pulled out of the project in late 1999.

Albertsons pursued plans to build this store later in 1996, but they later fell through for reasons unknown. By the late 1990's, the lot was divided into smaller lots for some restaurants and a CVS.

One of two lots for planned Jewel-Osco Florida stores sold to Albertsons when they bought their 7 Florida stores from them in 1992. I can't find any documentation saying Albertsons pursued the plans to build this store, but it was assigned the store number 4409. This lot sat vacant until 2004 when the Shops at Sheldon was built. Site currently home of Shops at Sheldon and a few other business complexes.
4453ALBERTSONSNE Corner of Moffett Road (US 98) and Schillinger Road (CR 31)ALBERTSONS PLAZAMobileAL36618MobileAlbertsons had plans to build a store here around 1996/1997, over 10 years after they had pulled out of Alabama by selling all of their Alabama stores to Bruno's. This store was to be built in the very outskirts of the city of Mobile. Albertsons was to build a new store with an attached shopping center on this site, but for reasons unknown, nothing ever came to be here. Albertsons sold off this land in 2002, and it remains vacant to this day.

Albertsons was the frontrunner to be the main grocery anchor in the center. The plans were later scaled back due to traffic concerns. One city comissioner then began to pressure the owner of the land to sell the lot to the county to preserve its natural significance and turn it into a park. The owner finally gave in and sold the land to the county for use as a park, formally scrapping all plans for this Albertsons. This site became Urfer Family Park in 2008.

That was torn down for a Service Merchandise, which was then torn down for the Albertsons/Douglas Grand. This Albertsons would have been a small store (44,000 sqft, compared to the typical approx. 60,000 sqft. stores) on the ground floor of the Douglas Grand Condominium complex. When Albertsons pulled out of Miami, they sold this property, along with store #4435, to Publix (Construction may have started when Albertsons was still in control, but I'm not completely sure). After aquiring the property, Publix opened in 2003 as the supermarket tenant for the Douglas Grand Condominium complex (The small size is more suitable for Publix anyway). It's a very unique design the way it's integrated into the condo complex.

After Albertsons pulled out of Miami-Dade County, this site sat vacant until 2007 when a Sedano's and accompanying shopping center were built at the site.
4493ALBERTSONSNW Corner of Caroline Street and Dogwood Drive (6516 Caroline)SIX FLAGS SHOPPING CENTERMiltonFL32570Santa RosaThis store was supposed to open in 2004 as one of the last new Albertsons stores in Florida, and their first store in Santa Rosa County (just northeast of Pensacola). It was to be an unusually small, approx. 40,000 sqft. store occupying a former Piggly Wiggly space with an Albertsons Express gas station built out front. As 2004 crept on, Albertsons began to realize they were losing the supermarket game in Florida and they put the plans for this store on indefinate hold in mid-2004, just to scrap them soon after. The Piggly Wiggly site sat vacant until 2012, when it became a Pic N Sav Food Outlet. The outparcel set aside for the Albertsons Express has since become a Walgreens.

  2. Former employee of store 4310 worked their starting as cashier then went to the drug dept. and became a third man. Worked from 81 to 86 then left and came back in 87 for a few months worked as the meat deli manager. They strayed from their original business model and that's when it all fell apart. Worked with a lot of great people and wonder where they all ended up at.

  8. Albertsons was my first job I started as a courtesy clerk then became a cashier then went to dairy stock and back to cashier. I was disappointed to say the least when they decided to leave FL. I would definitely work for Albertsons again if they ever decided to come back
