Schnucks Region 13 (TN and MS) Store List

Store #AddressCityState ZIPStore History/Info
7711761 Union AvenueMemphis (Midtown)TN38104Originally opened in 1965 as Seessel's, although their history along Union Avenue dates back to 1926. Formerly family-owned, Seessel's later was acquired by other retailers, and was operated by Albertsons from 1998 through 2002, when they exited the Mid-South. One of the 12 Seessel's stores Albertsons sold to Schnucks in March 2002. Remodeled by Schnucks sometime during their tenure in the Mid-South with a décor package not found at any other Region 13 Schnucks store. Schnucks rebranded the former Seessel's stores to their own banner and operated in the Memphis area through 2011, when they, too, decided to depart. One of the nine former Schnucks stores purchased by Kroger, the region's dominant grocer, in September 2011. Kroger closed this store in January 2016 (having never remodeled), demolished it, and subsequently built a larger, more modern replacement store on neighboring property which opened in November 2016, finally making good on promises both Albertsons and Schnucks had made in the past regarding this location. 772576 S. Perkins RoadMemphis (East Memphis)TN38117Originally opened in 1964 as Seessel's. One of the 12 Seessel's stores Albertsons sold to Schnucks in March 2002, and one of the nine former Schnucks stores purchased by Kroger in September 2011. Never remodeled from Albertsons' décor by either Schnucks or Kroger. Store closed as Kroger in March 2016, and reopened on July 12, 2017, as the third Sprouts Farmers Market in the Memphis area.
7737735 Farmington BoulevardGermantownTN38138Opened in 2004 as one of only three stores that Schnucks would build new in the Mid-South. This store was a replacement for an existing, 1985-opened Seessel's store at the same site (see Store #775). Albertsons had planned a replacement store at the site (to be built behind the original store), but construction of that store did not occur before Albertsons pulled out of Memphis in 2002. As a result, the construction plans for this new store were bundled alongside the 12 Seessel's stores that Albertsons sold to Schnucks in March 2002. Schnucks carried through with Albertsons' plans to demolish the existing store and rebuild larger, but altered the new building to reflect their own design. The old Seessel's store was demolished when the new Schnucks opened in 2004. This Schnucks lasted until the chain pulled out of Memphis in September 2011, and was one of the nine former Schnucks stores purchased by Kroger. Kroger did a heavy remodel and expansion to this store in 2016, essentially demolishing and rebuilding the store as Schnucks had done to the Seessel's store that preceded it.
774275 New Byhalia RoadColliervilleTN38017This store actually was built on a site on which Albertsons had been planning to build a Seessel's store prior to their departure. When Schnucks bought the Seessel's stores from Albertsons in March 2002, Schnucks decided to build a store of their own at this site, which opened in 2004. Schnucks operated here from 2004 until they pulled out of Memphis in 2011. This store was one of the nine Schnucks stores sold to Kroger in September 2011, but Kroger chose only to operate eight of those stores, allowing this store to close alongside the remaining three unpurchased Schnucks stores. This building was then converted into an Academy Sports store in 2013, their first location in Greater Memphis.

Albertsons also sold Schnucks construction plans for a replacement store at this site which they were not able to build. Schnucks carried through with Albertsons' plans to demolish the existing store and rebuild larger, but altered the new building to reflect their own design (see Store #773). This older Seessel's building was closed and demolished when the new Schnucks at the site opened in 2004.

Store reopened in 2012 as Cordova Farmer's Market and retains Schnucks' décor.

7895270 Riverdale RoadMemphisTN38141Originally opened in 2001 as Seessel's by Albertsons. One of the 12 Seessel's stores sold to Schnucks in March 2002. Schnucks closed the store in March 2003, claiming they assigned it zero value from the get-go, but temporarily reopened it in 2005 to aid Hurricane Katrina relief. The fuel center/convenience store at the property continued to operate as a Schnucks Express and, later, a Kroger KwikShop into the 2010s, but is now closed. Store finally became Divine Life Church Worship & Training Center in 2017.
78X8374 Goodman Road (unbuilt)Olive BranchMS38654What would have been Schnucks's fourth self-constructed store in the Mid-South, and second Schnucks-built store not located on land on which their predecessor, Albertsons, had been planning to build a Seessel's store at one point. Announced in 2004 as a projected 63,250 square foot store to be opened in 2005 as a part of "phase II" of their Memphis-area expansion. However, construction was delayed for some reason, and this store never came about (nor did any other Mid-South Schnucks stores). Store number is uncertain; it is possible that no store number was ever assigned to this project, even. (My guess is that it would have been Store #784, however.) As of 2017, the 13.48 acres at the southeast corner of Goodman Road and Highway 302 in Olive Branch on which this store was to be built remain for sale via the DESCO Group, the Schnuck family's commercial real estate arm.
