That's disappointing that the remodel had to effect this building, but I'm sure the owners of the rest of the plaza wanted a streamlined look when everything was complete, so they had to convince the owners of the old Albertsons building to join in with the renovation. I didn't notice that about the off-coloration of the facade in the property appraiser photo (I only noticed the blue stripe, which was also gone by the time the Google Streetview car came around). In addition to the expansion of Publix and Walmart, I'm sure the opening of store #4498 didn't help much in this store's later years. I'm honestly surprised both Apopka stores made it to 2012, and that one of them didn't get cut prior to that.Albertsons Florida Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17350708223049245195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628100700550321985.post-83841270494027758972017-08-15T17:02:55.820-04:002017-08-15T17:02:55.820-04:00This was actually a very neat looking store. This was one of those few Albertsons stores that had the Google car pass right in front of it with a clear view of all of the major signage for the store. It's also cool that the Orange County Property Appraisers offices still uses these old photos from back when this store was open. In the Property Appraisers photo, it looks like center facade (near the Albertsons and Savon sign) was painted a slightly different color or missed being painted with the rest. I thought the same thing that you thought about the lack of business at this store in those historical overviews, and the store lasted 27 years! Like i said on Flickr, I'm pretty sure most of those river rock walls at the front of the building have been covered over with some off-white stucco to match the rest of the plaza. However, if you look behind the strip of stores to the left of #4359 as you're heading east on Semoran, you can see that the river rocks continue to live on in the back of the building. I guess this store had its hayday back in the late 80's and early 90's, like a lot of other Florida Albertsons, and began to trail off after Publix began to rapidly expand and Walmart began building more Supercenters.
