This location also had the upper floor at the front of the store with a long hallway of one-way mirrors looking out over the sales floor. It sounds like Kmart's remodel happened during their "Big Kmart" remodel spree of the late 90's. With the location of this plaza, I'm sure it was easy to get the Albertsons and Kmart filled so fast.

I've been to the old Sanford Albertsons you mentioned and a post on that store is already being planned for later this year. I'm surprised that one has been sitting empty for so long. I saw the old Winn-Dixie/Big Lots across the street from there was in the process of becoming a Harbor Freight after sitting empty for a while as well, so I don't know what's taking so long with finding someone for the old Albertsons.Albertsons Florida Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17350708223049245195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628100700550321985.post-22785996563751332152016-04-24T19:39:37.396-04:002016-04-24T19:39:37.396-04:00Glad you finally did this location. They never remodeled the store exterior [shown here in 1989 http://i.imgur.com/S2DfWSH.jpg] but I believe Kmart recieved an upgrade around 1997/1998, and they expanded past Kmart in 2001 to include a gym and some other shops.

That Fresh Market always has people out on the patio and they sit there for hours. I have no idea why.

I also went to the Plaza-style Sanford location that opened in 2000, which is nearly untouched and opens up as a Halloween store every year (albeit blocked off with walls and such). It looks nearly the same as the Port St. Lucie location. It would be nice to see some coverage on that one sometime too, it's a dead plaza and they'll either demolish it or someone will move in for good eventually.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628100700550321985.post-68629263152096301362016-04-24T15:35:32.844-04:002016-04-24T15:35:32.844-04:00I was looking through some other pictures of newer...I was looking through some other pictures of newer Ross stores, and they all use that same tile pattern seen here (even ones built brand new). Even if Albertsons had similar tiles, I think Ross still would have ripped them out to replace them with their own, yet similar, looking ones.Albertsons Florida Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17350708223049245195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628100700550321985.post-42265124608418061362016-04-24T13:58:27.829-04:002016-04-24T13:58:27.829-04:00I believe that white and gray terrazzo-like tile i...I believe that white and gray terrazzo-like tile in Ross is original, I've seen it at the produce departments of former Albertsons in the Houston area (Kroger, H-E-B).Pseudo3Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17848368606946150471noreply@blogger.com
